Glenholme School’s student-run restaurant, The Commons, will open next week, initially with curbside pickup available. The restaurant is a popular lunch stop for students but is even more beneficial for the students, who cook the food and serve other students and their teachers.
Mr. Kepics, who oversees the operation, says The Commons is invaluable in teaching students social skills, executive function skills and in some cases a vocation. Several graduates of Glenholme have gone on to culinary careers.
This year approximately 30 students will be involved, from time-to-time, in food preparation and table service. The Commons is certainly a fun place to be but also an excellent learning environment. Mr. Kepics makes sure students meet or exceed state health department food handling standards along with teaching them to work as a team
