Today is Founder’s Day! Helena Trafford Devereux, a south Philadelphia teacher, founded our organization in 1912 after she saw, firsthand, that children with disabilities were underserved by the public education system. Miss Devereux believed children, regardless of the level of their disabilities, could learn and achieve personal growth in an environment tailored to their needs.
