Canine caring

The Ambassadors for the Simon Foundation, Stephanie Ferguson and her adopted dog, Neville, made an impression on the caring students of Glenholme when they visited the school in November 2009 to deliver the message about animal rescue awareness. In response to their visit, the students of the Canine Care program held a donation drive to help support The Simon Foundation, which is dedicated to the preservation and adoption of dogs and cats that would otherwise be abandoned, neglected, abused or euthanized in municipal shelters, into loving homes.

In only a few short years, Simon Foundation has successfully adopted more than 500 dogs and is currently averaging five dog placements each week from their Hemlock Kennels in Bethlehem; and with the opening of their Bloomfield facility in August 2009, they anticipate that number to triple. The effort of the Canine Collection students will assist the Simon Foundation meet their goals. The abundance of items collected included food, treats, bedding supplies, collars and carriers, office and medical supplies as well as janitorial needs. In mid-February, Heather Perssonatti accompanied two students to the Simon Foundation’s facility to make the special delivery and celebrate the success of their donation drive with Stephanie Ferguson and several animals awaiting adoption.
