IMMEDIATE RELEASE October, 2000 Washington,CT ... Devereux Glenholme, Washington, was selected for a Promising Practices Citation by the Character Education Partnership. The award came as a result of the school's work in creating the Teens Who Care Foundation, a student-run philanthropy foundation. As a result of the award the school will be listed in a book, to be published by CEP, titled 2000 Schools of Character, Devereux Glenholme was also recognized as a semi-finalist at the National Schools of Character Awards ceremony. Twenty-one semi-finalists were selected nationwide for the ten finalist awards. Evaluation included an extensive on-site visit from the CEP. Mary Guilfoile, Director of Training, represented Devereux Glenholme at the October awards ceremony in Philadelphia. Devereux Glenholme is the home of The Glenholme School, a residential program for children, ages 5 to 16 at admission, who have emotional, behavioral or learning difficulties. Through programs such as the Teens Who Care, the Technology Group, and community service, CEP recognized the school's success at fostering student autonomy. Nearly every student on campus participates in some way in community service or the technology program. Devereux is a center of The Devereux Foundation, a national organization with centers in 12 states and the District of Columbia.
