Cheers and excitement filled the Chase Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion, where the University of Hartford Hawks looked to capitalize on their mind-week matchup with the visiting Vermont Catamounts on Wednesday January 31, 2013. When the Glenholme Men’s Singing Group took the floor for the “The National Anthem,” a sudden hush of silence came over the stadium.
The Hawks stood prominently at one side of the court and the Catamounts at the other side – both teams with hands over hearts. Then the Glenholme singers delivered a strong and confident a capella rendition of “The National Anthem.” Many of the competitors and the audience sang along. The performance was met with resounding cheers and applause from the crowd. Afterwards, the Glenholme students and staff enjoyed a high-energy, action-packed basketball game.
Although the University of Hartford men's basketball team fell short to the visiting Vermont Catamounts 43-49, it was another amazing experience and a distinguished honor for the men’s singing ensemble. Glenholme was well-represented by a wonderful group of young men who received several compliments from the court-side spectators and newscasters, including WFSB sportscaster, John Holt.
Active involvement in a strong arts program permits students to expand their abilities, increase their self-esteem, and learn positive methods of expression. Each year, Glenholme strives to expand the arts program to provide an eclectic series of opportunities to instruct students to become competent in their abilities.
Congratulations to Michal, Aaron, Rodion, Jim, Patrick, Justin, and David, on another incredible accomplishment!
