Arts Incentive: Kevin Flynn Returns to Campus

A recent weekend comedy workshop launched a new year of Arts Incentives at Glenholme. Over the two days of November 3rd and 4th , students were treated to a fun-filled arts experience by acclaimed comedian, actor and television host Kevin J. Flynn.
As an actor, Mr. Flynn is known for his roles in “Sex and the City,” “Law & Order,” and “Me, Myself, & Irene”…to name just a few. As a television host, he hosted a myriad of shows such as HGTV’s “Ultimate Collectors,” Discovery Channel’s “Go For It, “and World Cup soccer for Fox Sports, ESPN and ABC. Throughout his career, he has worked with many of the funniest minds in Hollywood including Ben Stiller, Jim Carey, and Bill Murray.

As a follow-up to his June 2012 comedy workshop at Glenholme, Mr. Flynn demonstrated new techniques in the art of storytelling through a comedic lens. In the “how to” experience, students learned to create and deliver brief but very funny two-minute stand-up routines by formulating a beginning, middle and end. Interwoven throughout the workshop, students learned how to engage their audience and capture their attention while on stage. The workshop concluded with students delivering individual artful skits that transformed seemingly ordinary memories into universally relevant comic genius before an audience of their peers.

By participating in the Arts Incentive program, students of Glenholme expand their skills, liberate their imaginations, increase their self-esteem, and learn positive methods of expression. Active involvement in the arts stimulates students' personal growth, helps them to develop an appreciation for others, and allows them to take healthy risks in a safe and supportive setting. At Glenholme, the Arts Incentive program continues to grow and provide students with a diverse series of on-campus weekend workshops covering all areas of the arts.
