Educational Consultants Welcomed at Glenholme

The Glenholme School welcomed fifteen educational consultants from around the country, as part of a tour of New England schools for special needs students. The afternoon event of October 2, 2012 began with a video introduction which provided details about the school’s magnificent history, the buildings and campus, the vast extracurricular offering along with important facts about the education, residential and therapeutic programs. Assistant Executive Director Dr. Patrick Queean answered questions after the video and provided further details on In-Vivo treatment and on the addition of Quantum Learning to the Glenholme program.

After the video introduction and luncheon, the consultants toured campus, met faculty, and spoke with students. During their campus tour, they visited several student cottages, the music department, the Commons - school’s fully operational student cafĂ© which is a main focus of the culinary program, and the schoolhouse. Admissions staff also shared information on the Go-Kart track, the ball fields, and the equestrian program.

The event wrapped up with a panel discussion in The Center for the Arts, during which the educational consultants had the opportunity to ask an eight-member student panel questions about their time at Glenholme. Representing a cross-section of the student body, the panel was comprised of male and female students in grades 5 through 12, each with different experiences and interests at the school. The student panel provided personal accounts of the expansive programs and opportunities available to students including the interscholastic sports program and the arts program, how Glenholme differs from their previous placements, and how they benefitted from the school’s Token Economy system.

When discussing the token economy, one student confidently noted, “Although it was difficult at first, the Token Economy taught me how to make appropriate choices and helped me learn about myself. Now that I have moved to the next phase after the token economy, I can positively say that I would not be where I am today without that experience.”
